Introducing Eva

I had hoped to get a male perspective at some point, but it seems that guys are just too shy, or not into blogging, to present themselves as possible writers for the blog. I still hope to add a guy to the staff, either permanently or as someone who might guest blog. In the meantime, I’ve added Eva Pookes to the staff, and her main remit will be exploration of the ‘non genuine naturist’ sims that abound in SL. I should add that the number of ‘Eve’ or ‘Eva’ avatars that have turned up in SL Naturist so far are purely coincidental. Perhaps there’s a subconscious thing wherein SL naturist ladies adopt the ‘Eve’ name or variants of it, I don’t know. Anyway…on with the show!

Eva will be ideal for the job, being a feisty girl who takes no BS from anyone!

I spoke to her at length prior to and since her appointment, and let me tell you she’s going to be a great asset to SL Naturist.

Ella: You’ve been in SL a long time.

Eva: Yeah. I’ve seen a lot of changes, both in how we look as avatars and how the grid has subtly changed.

Ella: And you’ve always been a naturist in SL?

Eva: Quite a militant one! I set up a group to fight for naturist rights. And that has got me banned from some sims, lol! I was a member of the Manatee Naturists…

Ella: …oh, me too! It was my first SL naturist place where I felt at home.

Eva: Yeah. And you remember they closed, re-opened and then closed again and somewhere along the line just withdrew from naturism despite it being a popular naturist spot? Well, I took the owners and officers on in a vocal way and started handing out notecards demanding the sim’s reinstatement, and for that I was banned. I felt they’d betrayed us a little.

Ella: I don’t remember the incident.

Eva: I couldn’t access all the members. They turned it into a ballroom and I used to hang around there, hassling visitors about how they’d just pulled the plug. I suppose it was griefing, a little, but I felt we needed to band together as members of the place who used it regularly and fight to have it retained. I’m not sure if I’m proud of that or not. I should go back and see if the ban remains!

Ella: And since then you’ve….?

Eva: Been in different places. Few last the distance, which is a shame as some have been good builds. I think we’ve got to the point now where SL Naturism is confined to a few places, but they’re uniformly excellent. Of course, some don’t understand the difference between being a naturist and just being naked. There’s some educational work to do, in SL as well as continuing work in the real world.

Ella: And what do you think you can bring to the role I’ve assigned you?

Eva: I don’t take any s***. I’ve been playing this game a long time and I’m battle hardened, lol. I’ve no qualms about tp’ing into a sim and swatting away unwanted attention, while hopefully pointing out just where it is that the owners are going wrong with it. Don’t get me wrong, cyber’s fine, but not on a public beach in SL. That’s not naturism, that’s exhibitionism. I’d hope to use my contributions to promote good, strong, healthy images of naturism as it should be. You and I aren’t here to dictate on others’ SL’s, but I think that these other sims, what you call ‘non genuine’, sometimes might skew people’s opinions on what naturism actually is. That’s not good for us in SL is we attract age-players, and it’s not good in RL if people playing this game then imagine that all naturist women are willing sperm receptacles.

The Naked Dreams (Eden Heron) underwater viewing platform

Most of us live on, in or near water in SL. The beach looms exceptionally large in the SL consciousness, and we like to buy island homes with beaches, congregate on beaches, hang out on beaches. Water, water, everywhere…

Ella said in this post that she was a little bit embarrassed that she’d never, yet, covered Teresa Korhonen’s beautiful recreation of her own original build, Buffy’s Cove, at the Eden Heron sim. Well, she shouldn’t feel embarrassed. Eden is so vast that it will require us working around the clock for a few days to cover all of it. And then someone would tell us what we’d missed! 🙂

Of course, Ella hopes to right this oversight soon, and I’ll leave the words to her in a subsequent post, along with receiving her direction on what photos she wants. In the meantime, back to the water…

Teresa’s build at Buffy’s cove had the imagination to understand that the SL world doesn’t stop where we paddle our feet, but goes on under the expanses of water beyond. To that end, she built a marvellous viewing platform of from which to view sea life at Buffy’s, and she has re-created that at Naked Dreams.

Again, the breadth and depth of people’s SL imagination is such that I’m not even going to focus on ‘Naked Dreams’ as a whole, but simply the life that exists in its waters. Do you now understand what a problem we have in attempting to provide comprehensive coverage of Eden? When we’re up against cunning builders whose intelligence and imagination stretches beyond a couple of ‘love scene’ poses on some sand? A wretched job, but someone has to do it, lol.

So…tp’ing into the observation chamber at Naked Dreams, what we witness is a stunningly colourful array of sea life. I don’t really need to say that much. The pictures speak for themselves.

Having snapped off a few pix, I noticed my little punk-pal Josie had come online. ‘Wanna hang out naked? Under the sea?’, I asked, and she agreed. I must say here Josie and I aren’t ‘an item’ and never have been nor are ever likely to be. I’ve had her as a friend for so long we’re just good pals who, when not occasionally hanging out at a nudist sim, like to visit punk rock sims and dance in a ridiculous fashion while listening to the audio feeds provided. So it was with some trepidation that I asked her to step onto the poses provided, marked ‘him’ and ‘her’, but they were thankfully a nice cuddle pose where we could stop, watch the sea life, and catch up on what’s been going on in RL (and SL) since we were both last online together. Has it really been a whole 4 days, lol?

So, while not being quite a ‘naturist’ post, it’s on a naturist sim, (and I did leave my shorts at home!) and shows the level of intelligent build that exists on the Naked Dreams sim. I’ve already been photo-shooting around it for Ella’s post (still more to do/see/photograph, though!) and I’m sure you’ll see the results in subsequent posts.

In the meantime, click the link and see the ‘Naked Dreams’ underwater viewing platform for yourselves.

Harry

Some subtle changes to the blog

I’ve removed the ‘Stream of Consciousness’ page. Too occasional, too random, too pointless, and replaced it with a Non ‘Genuine Naturist’ Locations page, wherein we’ll report from ‘naturist/nudist’ locations in SL that have some, or too much, emphasis on sex within SL, reinforcing or blurring people’s view of what naturism actually entails.

A new writer will be appointed in due course to report from these places.

Finishing the day with some good news! :)

The promised changes at Sweden Naturist appear to have taken place, and what a superb job Evacaroline

has done. I think that’s her in the photo, which Harry took over there while shooting our models, ‘Adam’ and ‘Eve’ on site.

Apart from looking gorgeous herself, she has left Sweden looking gorgeous too! A jacuzzi (not photographed) is new, as is the new mud wrestling area. Adam and Eve tried it out. The result? One game all, but it rather looks as though Eve has the upper hand in Harry’s photo!

From there, the trio headed over to a new, improved club area for a drink overseen by barmaid Erika Linden.

Neither felt in the mood to dance, but did spy what appears to be a greatly improved ‘lake’ area, now given more depth and interest. The sun certainly made Eve a little sleepy, so Harry captured Adam giving her a gentle massage while she soaked up a few rays of sunshine.

As Adam and Eve headed over to the swing (not new, but a cute animation), Harry ran into Hungarian girl Marta, who agreed to pose for a snap.

Having got her calling card, Harry then joined Adam and Eve at the swing to take a few more photographs.

After what seems to have been a couple of bad days in SL naturism, with the worry of Sweden’s future, and the closure of Karma’s sim, it’s good to know that Sweden, now one of SL’s longest standing naturist locations, is very much alive, well and improved. Evacaroline (here’s another pic in the sim that we think is Eva)

has made subtle, yet marvellous changes to her sim. People like things to change, yet stay the same. The geography and much of the layout is familiar, with just a few nice changes. For this, Evacaroline is to be congratulated for doing a superb job on Sweden, and we very much recommend it as an SL naturist sim worth your time. It’s very much an interactive sim, with a wide range of poseball activities. As well as dancing, cuddling, sitting around jacuzzis (the cuddle rug animations are excellent, and we’ve spent time before now photographing them), Evacaroline has never shied away from the fact that avatars have, well, needs! 🙂 and accommodated them too, in a quiet, subtle, discreet manner. While I usually differentiate between ‘genuine’ naturist locations (no poseballs required) and ‘others’, I have always included Sweden in the ‘genuine’ category, for the subtle and discreet manner in which Evacaroline handles the matter. Sweden, previously excellent, has been given a new depth, and is very much worthy of your time. A superb remake from a long-established friend of SL naturism.

More bad news…

Editorial (supplement)

I’m sorry to report that Karma (InstantKarma Resident) has opted to close, hopefully temporarily, the Lost Garden naturist sim citing high tier costs. I fully understand the decision.

For those who weren’t familiar with the sim, Lost Garden was ‘primitive’ in that Karma kept it all very, very simple and somehow in doing so made it very, very special, somewhere to get away from the constant shopping mall experience and relax in a very unspoilt land where the emphasis landed firmly on the social, chatty element of SL that is sometimes missing from many sims, naturist or otherwise.

I sincerely hope he will be back, but I do understand that, in times of economic hardship, we all watch the pennies carefully, and need to be grateful to those who do shell out real money to provide the playground(s) we like to spend spare time in.

I’ve looked long and hard at creating my own naturist sim as well, probably a partial recreation of my favourite RL naturist location, Vera Playa in Spain, but as with Karma I cannot justify the tier costs and do need to channel my hard-earned cash elsewhere.

Linden Labs must take some of the blame here. My understanding is that server costs continue to fall dramatically, but LL’s tier costs have never reflected this (perhaps someone can clarify this). They continue to be quite high for what is, let’s face it, a game we play occasionally or regularly and in the middle of a recession/depression, call it what you will, we’re in a bind. SL will continue to haemorrage good designers, builders, terraformers unless LL address the issue of weekly costs.

As I see it, we have a problem of sorts (SL naturists or not, as the issue affects all sims). Reducing the cost of tiers would encourage new users/players to build and develop their own places, and possibly benefit the game as a whole. Not everyone has a US/western European level of disposable income, and what’s disposable income to us is a fortune in, say, the BRIC (Brazil, Russia, India, China) economies. These are huge markets, and LL could, in theory, be laying foundations for a much ore popular game by making server costs much lower for people there (and possibly also have the benefit of making the pervading SL culture less American/European-centric, and encouraging players to build sims more in the style of their real existence. I, for one, would love the experience of walking through an Indian countryside with Indian homes, populated by Indian players in Indian styles of dress while listening to Indian music on the audio feeds as cows roam freely in the fields). We don’t all have to have a SL Ferrari parked outside an SL condominium.

In the context of SL naturism, we find ourselves reduced in choice. There are still some great, great sims out there, and maybe the upside to this is that we coalesce into a more tightly knit SL naturist community. What do you think?

Or are we reaching a point where some of us begin to form some sort of co-operative, and maybe think of pooling our resources, talents, skills into the creation of a new, group-owned naturist world in SL. I know what I can afford to spend each month, and I’d be happy to be part of a co-op that starts new, or seeks to expand an existing naturist world within SL. Might this be a way forward?

Ella.

SL replicates RL (No.2)

Another in this occasional series of me attempting to recreate RL photographs I see while scouring the web, and setting them into an SL context. This features two models regularly used by SL Naturist, ‘Adam’ and ‘Eve’ 🙂 and was, like the last in this series, taken at Buffy’s Cove. Harry (see pics at the bottom of the page)

(Ella adds: Some of you may be familiar with the almost exact recreation of Buffy’s Cove, Teresa Korhonen’s Naked Dreams, part of the Eden Naturopolis series of sims. It’s lovely, and somewhere I’ve visited occasionally and which, inexplicably, has been largely ignored by this blog. In my defence, I will say that Eden is so large that it will take several posts before I have fully shown it all to you. I’ve just nipped over there, and popped off a self portrait to show a similar area as from the Buffy’s photoshoot (below) as to how it does recreate Buffy’s, which Teresa originally designed, of course. in terms of light and geography. Apologies for hijacking Harry’s post, by the way. A full report on Naked Dreams to follow ASAP)

Who has dropped by?

WordPress allows me to see where in the world our readership comes from. While the US, UK, and most of Europe are, perhaps, to be expected, it seems we’ve picked up readers in all parts of the globe, including places I might not expect to see on the list, such as the United Arab Emirates, Mozambique and the Sudan, to name but three.

US highlighted by wordpress as the most popular source of our readership.

To each and every one of you, I say ‘thank you, welcome, and I hope you’ve enjoyed what you’ve read’. This is one of the truly wonderful aspects of the internet. It has made the world seem much smaller, and shows that we’ve got, wherever we are on this small, insignificant planet, common bonds, whatever our interests, that transcend all of the nonsense spouted by politicians and religious ‘leaders’ around the globe.

To know we’re picking up readers in places that wouldn’t be seen as common bedfellows, people’s humanity kept at arm’s length from one another in the name of religion, politics, or whatever else, is truly humbling. Right around the globe, people are united by their interest in this or that, in our case, being naturist in an online game called Second Life. Wherever you are, whoever you are, I wish you peace, love and my best wishes.

It also reminds me that I really do need to get a translate widget organised for the blog. I’m working on it! 🙂

Happy St.Patrick’s Day

Here at SLN, we’d never do anything as crass as dress up in green and pretend to be Irish, as half the world seems to do on this, St. Patrick’s Day. While it’s a wonderful spectacle in many parts of the world, and I’ve been lucky to witness celebrations both in Dublin and Armagh (the ecclesiastical capital of Ireland) and be a part of the joie de vivre shown (in Dublin) and the more solemn celebrations in Armagh (a reminder of the roots of Christianity in Ireland). So…:)

I’m grateful to my SL friend Mercedes for sending me a few photos of a discovery she made at the Eden Hawk sim (part of the Eden Naturopolis group). While not exactly an Irish jaunting car, and I’m sure there’s a proper name for the horse carriage Mercedes is driving, I’m going to adopt it as a symbol of Irish life, just for today.

You can pick up a ride near the Eden airstrip, and take a ride the full length of the Eden Hawk sim, all the way back to their central tp point. This looks like fun, and one of those ‘new experiences’ you can do which, after three years in SL, isn’t an everyday occurrence any more. Naked skydiving? Hmmm…been there, done that, wasn’t offered a T shirt 😉 but this looks like a lot of fun. And, knowing Eden Hawk quite well, I can say it’s a picturesque area, winding its way through natural surroundings and finishing up in a more bustling part of Eden.

For those of you wondering why there’s a little upturn in posting frequency, let me say that I respond to news or events as they come to me, and today’s little flurry of posts is related to the evolution of Sweden, and the fact that Mercedes sent me some photos. I’m happy, willing and able to post more regularly if I receive news, related to any aspect of SL naturism, as I receive it. If you’re an SL naturist sim owner, blogger, designer (we’ll happily review SL naturist related clothing, such as sarongs, for example), let me know  what’s going on and we’ll merrily blog it.

And SL Naturist Issue 2 seems to have been very popular and well received. Thank you for the messages of support. While I was planning to do Issue 3 in June, I’ve turned my mind in recent days to maybe popping in a ‘Spring supplement’ edition, in April sometime. When I first got into RL naturism I used to subscribe to the British naturist magazine H&E (Health and Efficiency) which, apart from its monthly editions, also ran quarterly supplements. My mind turned to this earlier this week, and it has put me in mind to follow suit, with seasonal, quarterly supplements, and maybe turn the regular magazine into a bi-monthly exercise. Certainly, SL naturism does have a tendency to follow the northern hemisphere summer to a degree, as the warmer weather encourages us all to shed some clothes, naturist or not, and I have noticed a tendency for there to be more SL naturism on the go in northern hemisphere summer time. So with that in mind, maybe we can have enough news and activity to bring you SL Naturist on a bi-monthly basis. What do you think? Let me know.

Sweden: An Update

Thanks to Evacaroline for getting back to me so quickly to tell me that there’s some work being done at Sweden, and that she’s going to create a ‘members only’ area.

I can’t wait to see what Evacaroline, a long standing friend of naturism in SL (it was one of the very first SL naturist places I discovered when I got out of that pink and white polka dot dress, lol!). I wish her every success with the project and feel confident that the new look will be somewhere we’d all like to visit.

I’ll get back to you all with an update, a report, a slurl, and all the other important information you require as soon as it’s re-opened. 🙂

In the meantime, I’ve included some photo sessions we’ve done at the ‘old’ Sweden.
