Hostelworld appears to be a world-wide organisation, but I’ve not heard of them before, probably because my hosteling days are long, long behind me. It’s not just hostels, but hotels at the more affordable end of the scale that they’re linked to, thus enabling those travelling on a budget to find cheaper accommodation during their ‘gap year‘.
