Happy Mother’s Day, Beautiful Mothers, and Mothers to be.

Yeah, we’re 24 hours late, but it was Mother’s Day in the UK yesterday (Sunday).

This post isn’t, however, about Mother’s Day as such, but Mothers in general, specifically those featured in Jade Beall’s ‘The Bodies of Mothers’ project and book, a project that features un-retouched photographs of pregnant women and new mothers (as reported in The Indepenent’s i100 feature).

Jade Beall’s website is here.

As is usual, we won’t feature copyrighted photographs in SLN, so simply click the links for more information.

Slightly related is the news that one of our SL friends, Doksie, who uses the Mama-Allpa fertility HUD (it effectively controls your SL capacity to conceive), is 5 weeks SL pregnant. Congratulations to her and the Dad!

It also gives us the opportunity to follow the progress of her SL pregnancy (don’t worry, we won’t be here for 40 weeks, SL pregnancies are set to reach full term within about 6 weeks).

We’ve not really covered the issue of SL pregnancy before, so it will provide us with a chance to follow her progress and also highlight the various elements involved in an SL pregnancy.

Doksie has slightly distended her tummy, replicating pregnancy by adjusting the ‘belly’ settings in her appearance controls.

I asked her to send us a screen cap, as it shows her Mama-Allpa hud settings along the bottom, saying that she’s 34 days pregnant, in the 5th week of pregnancy.

To control fertility, both partners must use the Mama-Allpa hud, and as with real life, having sex without ‘contraceptive’ settings switched on on the hud is no guarantee of a SL pregnancy.

I’ll provide a greater explanation of how it all works in a subsequent post, as well as the first instalment of what will be Doksie’s diary throughout her SL pregnancy.
