I was surprised….shocked…to spend part of my hiatus looking over the back pages of SLN to discover we’ve never really looked at Turtle Coast as a naturist destination.
I know we’ve had my policy of ‘genuine naturism’ in place, but quite why Wild Coast & Turtle Beach have never made the cut I’m not quite sure. Wild Coast was one of the first naturist locations I ever visited, it was crowded and it was non-sexual (in the main…I’m sure many avatars used it as a place to meet others before slipping off elsewhere…) with only a few cuddle pose balls around. In time it was largely supplanted by Turtle Beach, now the much more active sim of the two (both run by Kaiya Mumba) and Turtle is marginally more ‘in your face’ in terms of the availability of sex poses, but not so much that it should have been an issue for SLN’s policy. I can only suggest that it’s likely it’s been one of those locations (and we did include it in our list of slurls to naturist locations) that I was thinking ‘oh, everyone knows it’ and it has somehow become lost in terms of our reporting. I can only apologise for that.
Turtle is nearly always packed. I’ve logged in at 400am, not so much recently, but a while back when I’d have babies awake in the middle of the night, and you could still find activity going on there.
To right that wrong, I’ve asked Diane to go over there for photographs, utilising different models so that we can bring you a definitive report on Turtle (and Wild Coast), and I’m hoping she’ll come back later this week with a photo-essay we can give you on these long-standing and active SL naturist locations.
A sign at the entrance makes it blatantly clear that Wild Coast/Turtle Coast’s rules fit easily within SLN’s policy of ‘genuine naturism’
Photos from Turtle’s revolving message board at the entrance capture a flavour of the sim.
In the meantime you can find a slurl to Turtle & Wild Coast on our links page.
Going in search of ‘naturist news’ from RL, something we can replicate in SL, I was talking to SLN publisher Howie at a party he held at his house over the weekend, something that’s becoming an annual ‘felling of the tree’ event when the Christmas tree comes down. Drinkies, cheese and other stuff on sticks, you probably are familiar with the procedure.
And prior to attending, I’d been reading about how 10% of the (US?) population would drive naked if they couldn’t be seen. Howie laughed when I brought it up in conversation. ‘I’ve done that’, he said.
On holiday in a naturist destination, he says he regularly drives naked from his apartment to a nearby naturist beach bar that sells English language newspapers, and then returns home. ‘It’s not a long drive’, he shrugged, ‘but it’s a more comfortable option in the heat of the day. The layout of the place means I could walk it, nude, but that saps your energy in mid-morning, when the English papers arrive.’
Barbara, who was at the party briefly, but about to tp away to do some SL shopping, decided to come with us and sit in the passenger’s seat.
‘Hmm’ said Howie, I normally don’t get a hire car as flash as a Mini Cooper Coupe. It’s generally a Fiat 500. A funky little car in itself, but not a Mini Cooper.’
Barbara was so taken by the experience she says she wants to buy one. ‘We need a naturist sim with a road system’, she laughed. ‘I really want to zoom around naked in one of these too!’.
I’ve been sitting on this one for a week or so, while I IM’ed Fionnuala, an Irish naturist we profiled away back in Issue 4, I think (it’s late, I’m tired, and I’m off to bed, so I’ve neither the time or inclination to check! 🙂 )
Anyway, I read that one of the world’s potential top naturist destinations is -make that ‘could be’- Ireland.
Happily, Fionnuala agreed to pose for us again, this time at the Giant’s Causeway. Yes, yes, I know the Giant’s Causeway is in Northern Ireland and thus, strictly speaking, part of the United Kingdom…but it’s in Ireland, and there’s a reason for me asking Fionnuala to pose there, simply because it has a history of naturism, after a fashion.
Yep, Led Zeppelin’s Houses of the Holy album sleeve (1973) was photographed in the same place.
Anyway, Ireland’s a beautiful country which I’ve visited on a few occasions, and it would be terrific to see it become -weather permitting- a naturist destination of choice, regardless of the fact that Irish law does not recognise naturism.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but I believe that Ireland remains the only country in Europe which does not have one single officially recognised naturist beach.
nb…and this post is the 600th post on the SLN site. I’ve been having a blast over the past two years of doing it, and look forward to the next two years and next 600 posts! 🙂
