Vera Playa, a model village

I stumbled across the photo above on the internet. It’s the naturist village of Vera Playa in Spain. At first I thought it was the creation of some model enthusiast, but apparently this is a real photo taken from a hang-glider which offers trips around Vera Playa and Garrucha, the neighbouring town. Whenever I’ve been there I’ve often seen it (and generally heard it first!)

I was impressed by the end result, however it was achieved. So…is there anything Harry or Diana could do to match it? 🙂

Hmmm, the numbers are never the same as Vera Playa’s beach containing literally hundreds of naturists, but it’ll do for a start. In the meantime, the clock’s ticking down and I haven’t a thing packed. Talk later!

Vera Playa skinny dip cancelled

Some months back Ella and I were in an editorial meeting somewhere on the grid (we sometimes even dress up and visit chic cafes for this element of blogging, see below) and I mentioned I’d booked to go to Vera Playa to participate in their Guinness World Record attempt to reclaim the title for the largest mass skinny-dip ever held (a record subsequently broken by New Zealand). And Ella immediately shot back with the news that she & her husband were going as well, and also hoped to participate. So there we are, two people who only know each other through SL, in the same real world location at the same time. It was obvious that we’d be meeting up face to face.

An editorial meeting between Pookes and Ella, an event that sometimes includes a bit of tip-sharing on free items from around the grid.*

We don’t always meet pixel to pixel even if we’re both online together. Conversations often occur while we’re otherwise occupied on the grid. Quite often Ella’s presence is nominal, and she’s got SL running in the background while undertaking some blogging stuff. But on this occasion we met up while online.

Plans progressed at this in world meet, and it transpired we’d be there for a week while Ella would only be there for about four days. Still, imagine us actually meeting face to face. How exciting. My husband and I opted to stay at the naturist hotel, as we’ve never been to the area before, while Ella and her husband had booked into one of the naturist estates dotted around the area.

Well, I’m sorry to say that it appears this has been cancelled. I’ve only found out about this on a forum of which I’m not a member, and therefore can’t access full details of the reasons why, but I’ll be seeing if I can discover more.

I’ve just emailed Ella this news, and stated our intention to continue with our holiday plans. I’m not sure, at the time of writing, whether she’s even received this email yet. I’ll try and discover more this evening on why it has been cancelled and report back. 😦

Familiar?

I was zooming around the naturist sims earlier,  and on dropping into Eden, I noticed a certain familiar statue, probably because I was checking out some websites in relation to my first naturist holiday of the year now just a few weeks away.

I like the fact that, even down to the smallest details, SL’s naturist sim builders can squeeze in the little things that make the naturist experience in SL as realistic and true to RL as they possibly can.

Yet another world record breaking skinny dip attempt. (Sydney, Australia)

We’ve previously reported on world record breaking skinny dip attempts, in Vera Playa, Spain, and in New Zealand.

Now the Australians are at it!

These aren’t naturist events per se (although Vera Playa’s one in in the region’s naturist zone), but rather involve a lot of naked people, people who wouldn’t generally regard themselves as naturist. I like these events because they show increasing numbers of people are prepared to shed their clothes and think nothing of it, and indulge in an increasing sense of body awareness. And, in the case of Sydney’s event, held last Sunday, raise money for Australia’s National Parks. Nakedness and fund raising? What’s not to like?

We like a bit of fund-raising in SL, so….when are we going to organise our own record-breaking skinny dip within the game? And, you never know, raise some cash for some worthwhile charity.

I’ve also discovered that ‘a thousand’ people took part (wow!) and each paid A$40 (£20, $35, 25 euros) for the privilege. As they were entering the water ‘in waves, every fifteen minutes’ it’s unlikely this will break New Zealand’s current Guinness Book of Records listing (I believe Guinness expect all skinny dippers to be in the water simultaneously). So that’s A$40k raised for Australia’s National Parks! An incredible effort! Well done to all who participated!

Naked table tennis (ping pong)

Last week we posted on Miniten, and in that I mentioned that there was a table-tennis table at Eden, next to the rotunda (i.e. the central tp point).

It’s a game I’ve seen played, often, in naturist France. Less so elsewhere (although Vera Playa’s club hotel does, I know through experience, have one too).

I have to say that these photos from Eden carry a wonderful sense of movement and action in them.

Why not pop along with a friend and have yourselves a game?

New photo studio

We, SLN, have added our own photo studio, part of the plans to further develop in 2014. I don’t pretend to know how it works, but we can now slot our own backdrops into photos.

So I’ve spent the afternoon sourcing real life naturist location photos in the hope that they can provide us with some contextual backdrop when commenting on RL naturist spots.

For example, a long time ago, I reported  on playing naked outdoor chess (on an outsized chess board) at the Vera Playa Club Hotel in Spain.

And guess what? I found a photo of that very chessboard! Now, I can’t pretend to have got any idea how it make it all look ‘perfect’, I’m waiting for a lesson from either Harry or Diane on how this will all work, and both were offline earlier, but I think it should maybe add a different persepctive to photos in the future. I hope so anyway. The photo looks a little skewed, but hopefully it captures the atmosphere of a lovely naturist hotel in an idyllic part of Spain.

…here’s my effort.

It certainly put me in the mood for my naturist holidays in June. We aren’t staying at the Vera Playa Club Hotel, but are staying nearby. More details much closer to the time. And yes, for those who’ve previously asked, Vera Playa is currently our naturist destination of choice, as it suits us for convenience with two children in tow, regarding the speed at which we can get door to door. I love French naturist style, and I also love Croatia, locations we’ve done many times before there were any children, but for now and the foreseeable future, Vera (or Costa Natura, or El Portus, just along the coast in opposite directions from Vera), which we’d also done before children, will be our chosen destination
